it cant be Vietnam or the cold war or American civil rights but everything and I mean everything else is ok ........it has to be a specific thing in history

I am assuming that you are studying American History. You could look at the Suez Canal Crisis in 1956: reasons why the US became involved, and the effects of that involvement.
Then there is the rise of the "robber barons" such as Vanderbilt, Rockefeller. You could examine the prevailing social conditions that led to their position and the influences they had.
If you really want to be creative you could look at how the KKK became so influential in the 1920's

I had a project like this once and I was really interested in Jamestown in colonial times. Look it up. Hope this helps
