Four year old laptop needing repair, internal battery needs replacing, volume is off after home repair of the fan. Is it worth renovating?

The computer runs fine otherwise. I think I can do the battery replacement. I am just wondering if a four year old computer has much life yet, even if it is running fine? I'm getting a free Windows 10 update also. :)

At the very least the covers will have to be removed and the internal battery changed - that should be reasonably cheap. If the volume problem is simply a disconnected plug then it may be economic, if it is a damaged connector or cable then it will cost more.
It may be worth taking it in for a quote.
