What's wrong with my Xbox 360?

I've just gone to turn on my Xbox 360 and the green light came on to show it had been turned on then it turned red... Why?

Your xbox has attained the red ring of death, my friend. In other words, it's completely useless forever. You will now have to get rid of it and buy a new one.
