My friend asked me to email them, should they respond?

I was recently overseas and my friend asked me to contact them when I returned home to let them know that I got there okay. I emailed them letting them know and thanking them for their kindness while I was away. Should they have responded saying glad you got there okay etc. or does this type of email not warrant a response?

No, I do not think a reply is required in this case, it is not a life or death situation, all they did was ask for an email to say you got there, you sent it and that's all that's necessary here.

Answering an email falls into the same category as responding to a text message, it comes down to personal choice and priority. There is no one golden rule here so decide if you want to put your focus on waiting for an email or turning your attention towards something else in your life.

No. They just wanted to hear that you made it home, so they aren't worrying about your welfare.

The email does not required a response from your friend.

No, this type of email does not warrant a response. However, you'll probably hear from them soon.
