The Pomeranian are one of the most vocal of dog breeds.
They are big dogs in little dog bodies and they have a strong opinion about everything.

If you share walls with a neighbor, you may want to reconsider getting this breed of dog. They like to yap, yap, yap all day long. If this would get on your nerves, then it is not the breed for you.

I would think a Pug would be more of a rough and tumble type of little dog, they are clowns and very entertaining. I would think this type of dog would appeal to your son much more than a little vocal fluff ball. I have had friends that have owned Pugs for years. Nice dogs.

We have 2 Yorkshire Terriers. They can be sweet dogs but are very hard-headed. We used to have a pom, she acted the same as our Yorkies. Try to get him a friend as they will get depressed and very irritable if left by themselves for too long.

Which one best fits your needs and lifestyle? Do you have previous experience with dogs? Personally I prefer Pugs as they don't require a ton of coat care but the wrinkled faces will need to be kept clean daily. Also, they are a stubborn breed and bored easily when training them so sessions need to be kept short but exciting for the dog. The heat is a big problem for Pugs so you will need to keep them cool and walk them only in the mornings or evenings. Oh and they shed, snore, fart and need to be walked with a harness NOT a collar. I suggest you do your own research and figure out which one best fits your lifestyle.

Purebred poms are yappy and snappy, pugs are nicer but prone to serious health issues due to the breeding that gives them the squashed snout. You're much better off getting a mixed breed. Try animal shelters as there are so many lovely dogs looking for homes and buying pups just encourages more people to breed dogs (often in really bad conditions).
