Drop out of uni after one year. What to write on CV?

I went from A Levels straight onto a English Language and Linguistics course at the University of York. However, having messed up on the course, I received a fail. Now the uni wont have me back. I don't know how to phrase my year at uni on my CV, or if I should include it at all. Please help.

There should be no gaps on your cv or people will think the worst. They will think you were in prison or something really bad.

You could just put one year at university with no explanation. You will be asked about what happened so you need a good answer. You could say it was not a good fit and not what you expected.

I'd say "University of York, Linguistics 2014 - 2015" or something to that effect. If you don't list a degree, employers (should) know you didn't graduate, and if you don't say "2015 - present" they (should) know you're not still enrolled.

Still, you'll have a lot of 'splaining to do.

You can always say that money became an issue and you need a job at this point, but if they ask for a transcript or contact the university to verify your standing, they'll know you've lied.

If you want an employer to consider you an honest person, you should write the truth! Of course they might ask you about it. Just be honest. Also you should focus on other information in your CV. Find some tips in internet on writing it or find somebody to help you, so that you'll make sure everything else looks good! Good luck!

Why don't you try applying to other colleges?
