Nursing school during college?

You don't get accepted to the Nursing Program right away. Here's the steps: Apply to University of Maryland and get accepted, do the prerequisites to get accepted to the Nursing Program as a "Pre-Nursing Student", then apply to the Nursing Program and get accepted.

From my understanding many student in this situation would apply to a transfer instead of taking everything.

A university is made of different colleges, such as the college of science, college of liberal arts, etc. Usually the application to attend a university requires you to choose a specific major and that is automatically put under a specific college that possess that degree program for Freshmen. The college of nursing and the University of Maryland technically are not separate. You just simply put that you want to do nursing and that school will process that through the college of nursing on its own. Sometimes, depending on the university, you would have to apply again after two years to see if you are eligible to take upperclassmen courses for the last two years in the nursing program, but that is something you would have to check with your school's admissions office.
