1) I failed in rescheduling debts.
我債務重組失敗。

Similar egs: I failed in Mathematics.
I failed in the final examination.

But you would not say, "I was failed in Mathematics." (x)
Likewise, you would not say, "I was failed in rescheduling debts." (x)


2) (a)It makes me sad to hear girls putting themselves down.
- "girls" =「一般 / 任何 女仔」
- This is a general statement about girls.

(聽到女性 putting themselves down 令我不安)

(b)It make me sad to hear those girls putting themselves down.
- "those girls" =「那幾個女仔」
- This statement refers to some particular girls

( 聽到那幾位女仕 putting themselves down 令我不安)


3) It's only hard when someone in it isn't fully committed.

- " someone in it " ---> "isn't fully committed"
其中有人 ---> 不是完全投入

(當其中有人 不是完全投入 , 這會變得困難。 )

Q3: 你是分割錯了 - someone in / it isn't fully committed
但這分法 , "someone in" - 解不通 !

∴ 應該這樣切 - someone in it / isn't fully committed

錯的理由
failed 不是 adjective
fail 在這句是 intransitive verb, 不能 put into passive, failed 不是 past participle
此外, 這句不是 subjunctive, I (first person singular) 不能用 were
所以這句子錯
fail 可做 transitive verb, 有 object
The examiners failed over half of the candidates.

I beg to differ.
I failed the examination.我考試不及格
(failed 是 transitive. verb, exam. 是 object)

I failed in the examination.我在考試失敗
(failed 是 intransitive verb, "in the exam". 是 prepositional phrase)
如果談論考試是"及格" pass 或 "不及格" fail, 我不會這麼說

I failed in mathematics (British)
I failed mathematics (US)

2. It make me sad to hear (that) those girls put themselves down ~ 錯
應該用 makes, 不是 make

(a) It makes me sad to hear girls instantly putting themselves down.
(b) It makes me sad to hear (that) those girls put themselves down

(a) 和 (b) 有咩分別?
首先 (a) 用 present participle phrase, "putting themselves down"
(b) 用 that-clause, functioning as a noun clause
"that those girls put themselves down" ~ noun clause, object of the verb "hear".

(a) girls 前面無 determiner, 雖然無, 意義指一般女孩, 不是任何女孩 (any girls)
(b) girls 前面有 those, those girls 是指那些女孩

(a) 句有 instantly (adverb) = 立即地 (b)句沒有

It's only hard when someone (in it) isn't fully committed.
"in it" 是 prepositional phrase,
it 是 pronoun, 在這裡屬于 prepositional phrase 一部分
"it" 不是整個 clause "it isn't fully committed." 作 subject

下列兩句比較容易明白
It's only hard when someone isn't fully committed. (刪除 "in it")
It's only hard when someone involved isn't fully committed.
