The correlative comparative is a paired construction. Each part is syntactically alike.
Sentence Pattern:
- containing two corresponding phrases or clauses,
- separated by a comma,
- each clause/phrase headed by "the" and
- expressing a comparative: "the X-er . . . the X-er" or "the X-er . . . the Y-er".

1. reduced construction (with verb-to-be omitted) ~ two phrases

2. full construction (with verbs) ~ two clauses
