The text is speaking of any righteous who turn from God unto wicked ways of worshiping at pagan idols. Such are those who perish because they have no understanding.
Yet they perish before they get deeper into evil.

That seems to be the only hope for them in the eye of the prophet.

The righteous man perishes, and no man takes it to heart; And devout men are taken away, while no one understands. For the righteous man is taken away from evil,
