Why are Chinese so incompetent and uncaring when it comes to disasters like the river cruise ship capsize?

Is the stereotype true, that they only care about their immediate family?

OKIKNOWIT, in a civilised country a well equipped locally based emergency crew would have been onsite and working in half an hour. I am thinking of the SES volunteers we have here in Australia in every small town. They give up their free time for regular practice drills and fund raising, seeing it as their civic duty.

I know Whites have more empathy than any other race, and if we're not careful it's going to be our undoing.

it's hard to judge if you weren't there, but chinese people should care more about others outside their family.

A lot of that is spin created by the media. Regardless of where the disaster occurs, blame must be assigned. In most ship and aircraft accidents, if the captain survives, he almost always goes to jail.

Most disasters are turned into indictments of the government and their inability to prevent the disaster or quickly rescue the survivors. In this case, it seems that in the two hours it took rescuers to get there, almost all but the dozen who got out by themselves, were already dead. They raised the ship in just three days, and frogmen did find one lady alive and rescued her. I don't know what else they could have done.

I imagine the Chinese have just as much trouble in getting funding, training, and helicopters for first responders as FEMA does here.

Communist or dictatorship countries don't put much value on human life. The USA will become like that too.

Asking this question is like asking why americans are so incompetent and uncaring when it comes to gun control, campus shooting, racial discrimination, underaged pregnancy, ..., etc.
