Curtains are too long? How to make them shorter?
I have looked Ikea, Lowes, Home Depot, West Elm, and many others. The curtains at these shops are too long. Do people actually buy and then trim them?

The Ikea ones come with hemming tape
*. You cut to your desired length (add extra 1 inch for folding over)
* Then fold over the extra and press it with a hot iron
* Next follow the direction on the included hemming tape ( you only need the hot iron )
If you make a mistake you can buy more hemming tape at Walmart. They have cheap curtains at Walmart too but they might not be stylish enough for you.
Or you could go to Target . They have stylish curtains in the 72 inch length. Their website might have more options. You could also try the Jc penny site but their stuff is a bit outdated

How To Make Curtains Shorter
Yes. It's easy to do. Even if you don't have a sewing machine or know how to pin and hand sew the hems you can buy fabric glue or iron on bonding mesh to stick the folded over hem. Craft and fabric stores sell these items. Wash and dry the curtains first if they are washable because they will usually shrink a little.
Most people are now hanging their curtains from the ceiling instead of the top of the window, it gives the room a more finished look. Some people let their curtains puddle on the floor as a design element. If you want your curtains shorter, just hem them up, it's a simple enough job and a just a straight line of sewing. If you can't sew you can find a lot of people on craigslist that do sewing and won't charge much for hemming curtains. Most dry cleaners have people that will do alterations like hemming, they charge more than a private person would charge but hemming is the most reasonable charge.
