[文法]被動語態+形容詞(補語)?

2015-05-17 2:15 pm
An animal rights group has been granted a court hearing in which it will argue that two chimpanzees, who live at a New York state university, cannot be held captive because they’re autonomous, intelligent creatures.
請問cannot be held captive的captive是形容詞當主詞補語嗎?
和下列這種用法相同嗎
Tim(主詞) was caught cheating(主詞補語V-ing) on the test.

A New York state judge has issued an order called a writ of habeas corpus requiring the state university of New York to defend its right to keep the primates Hercules and Leo. A writ of habeas corpus requires a person to be released from unlawful imprisonment.

In what is said to be the first case of its kind in the world, the Nonhuman Rights Project, claims that because chimpanzees are autonomous, intelligent creatures, their captivity amounts to unlawful imprisonment. They want the pair of chimps, who are used in research on physical movement at the university, to be sent to a sanctuary in Florida called Save the Chimps.

Under the law, such orders can only be granted to legal persons, so the judge would need to find that chimpanzees have at least some limited rights traditionally reserved for humans.
根據法律規定,這樣的條款只被授予法人,所以法官需要找到黑猩猩至少有一些有限的權利, traditionally reserved for humans 請問要怎麼翻?

The group is hoping a victory could spur similar cases on behalf of elephants, dolphins, whales and other intelligent animals. The hearing is scheduled for May 6th.

謝謝

請問cannot be held captive的captive是形容詞當主詞補語嗎?
captive是原來的「受詞補語」,在動詞由主動改為被動後,原受詞chimpanzees 變成句子的主詞,但「受詞補語」留在原地。主動時是:People cannot hold those two chimpanzees captive...
和下列這種用法相同嗎
Tim(主詞) was caught cheating(主詞補語V-ing) on the test.
這裡的cheating也是留在原地的「受詞補語」。

通常只有人才能得到的這些權利(一般動物不能得到)
The group is hoping a victory could spur similar cases on behalf of elephants, dolphins, whales and other intelligent animals. The hearing is scheduled for May 6th.

cannot be held captive的captive是形容詞當主詞補語,與Tim(主詞) was caught cheating(主詞補語V-ing) on the test.用法相同,惟cheating是現在分詞,還原該句寫成Someone caught Tim who cheated.= Someone caught Tim cheating.

Under the law, such orders can only be granted to legal persons, so the judge would need to find that chimpanzees have at least some limited rights traditionally reserved for humans.
根據法律規定,這樣的條款只被授予遵行法律的人士,所以法官需要找尋比照傳統賦與人類的某些限制性的權利中給予黑猩猩,

passive voice + prepositional phrase as complement:-
(1)Two chimpanzees cannot be held in a captive way.
cannot be held=literal verbal phrase---passive---by men---
in a captive way=prep.phrase, as complement to the verbal phrase
=eg:-Time was caught cheating in a testing lesson.
was caught cheating=literal verbal phrase---passive---by examiner--a gerund---
in a testing lesson=prep.phrase---as complement to the verbal phrase.

(2)traditionally reserved for human=the translation from E/C:-
傳統上保留給人類.

introduce an amendment:-(1)Someone caught Tim (who cheated/cheating)present participle.
=Tim(s) was caught cheating (subj complement to V-ing)without further amendment.THX
