Is an Israeli Kibbutz successful communism?

Admittedly, I don't know too much about them, but I heard that they are effectively small communities that function on the basis that everyone is equal and all money made outside the kibbutz goes back to the kibbutz itself. Is this the only example of successful communism and if so why can it work there but not in other places?

They are socialist communes. They do not have communist governmental structures so are not communist. They used to be supported by some government funding as "cultural preservation". They are not self-sufficient financially.

They work because they are on a very small scale. Each person can still see the personal self-interest they have in doing work well for the community.
