Why would a electric company remove their electric meter from an senior citizen complex?

Could be they are replacing it with something newer.
They probably put in a new meter. A meter is installed wherever electricity is provided. Are you sure it was taken, or is someone bs'ing you.
They removed ALL of the meters? Maybe they are putting in new digital Smart Meters.
If there's no electrical service call the mayor, call the media immediately! If the box is to be replaced, they do it the same day with only minimal service interruption.
Pay your electric bill and they will put it back.
It might be that the complex was bought by a new owner who sought service from a different electric company. It could also be due to the fact that in many cities, the old meters are being replaced by new digital ones.
They are probably replacing it with an updated model.
Maybe the new smart meters are being put in instead. These can be read without the meter reader having to call. I would have thought that they would inform customers first that it was happening though. The only other reason which I can think of would be if the bill had not been paid and, here in U.K., they wouldn't do that without a final demand having been sent first. If that happens no-one should be surprised if the service is removed.
Ask them, they may be installing new meters, ask any manager you can get hold of.
Seems to me that someone should have asked the men that were doing the removal.
