Translating into algebra, we get the equation6x + 5 = 3(x + 1) - 7. Simplifying,
6x + 5 = 3x - 4
3x = - 9
x = - 3

so, 6x+5 = 3(x+1) - 7
or, 6x + 5 = 3x + 3 - 7
or, 6x - 3x = 3-7-5
or, 3x = -9
or, x = -3
