A 2.0cm×2.0cm×9.0cm block floats in water with its long axis vertical. The length of the block above water is 1.0cm

What is the block's mass density?

The volume of the water displaced = 2cm*2cm*8cm = 32cm³
36cm³ of the block has the same weight and therefore the same mass as 32cm³ of water
Density = mass/volume so mass = density * volume
Db*36cm³ = Dw*32cm³ => Db = 32/36 * Dw = 888.9kg/m³ = 8/9 g/cm³ <<<<<<<<
This makes sense. The block is floating on the water so it's density is less than water's but not much less which is why almost all it's mass is submerged

Vb*ρb = Vw*ρw
ρb = Vb*8/(Vb*9)*1 = 8/9 = 0.8(8) kg/dm^3 = 0.8(8) gr/cm^3 = 888.88 kg/m^3....floating body density
