2-chloro-2-methylpropane is prepared from methylpropan-2-ol and concentrated hydrochloric acid. Can we use concentrated sodium chloride solution to replace concentrated hydrochloric acid in the preparation ? Explain your answer.

No. It is because methylpropan-2-ol can only react to form 2-chloro-2-methylpropane in acid medium, as concentrated sodium chloride solution is not acidic, the reaction will not take place.
