plagiarism question?

We were asked to write an essay about the themes in some stories we read in class. I was confused a little bit so I decided to read some other essays that covered the topic. After reading these essays, their points made so much sense to me that I wanted to write about the same ideas. My paper is pretty much the same thing as one of the essays. It has the same structure, the same points. However I did not cite this essay because other essays had the same points and I felt that its possible thousands of people can have the same thoughts as well. Overall my paper has the same points and structure, I just reworded everything into the way I wanted to write it. There was no copy and pasting.

Is this plagiarism?

Yes… just because other people COULD have their thoughts "on their own" doesn't mean you DID have those thoughts on your own. You should cite everything you read.
You may not get caught, but just because you don't get caught doesn't mean it's not plagiarism. And, remember, you COULD get caught…is it worth failing the class?
