I am working on a problem in algebra, and I want to make sure I'm doing it correctly. The question is asking for the area of the room in feet, and the measurements are 11 feet 8 inches by 17 feet 8 inches. So will my calculations be 11.8 x 17.8 ? I want to make sure I'm setting the problem up the right way, thanks!!

No. 11.8 inches is not the same as 11ft 8 inches.
What I would do is convert to inches.
11*12 = 132 inches
plus the additional 8 inches, so it's 140 inches
the other is 17*12 = 204 inches
plus the additional 8 inches, so it's 212 inches.
140*212 = 29680 inches ^2
then convert back to feet if you want.

No it won't. Also the area will not be in feet it will be square ft. Convert all to inches. Width = 140 in Length = 212 in Area = 140*212/144 = 206.11 ft^2
