WHY ARE CATS SO MEAN???? WHAT CAN I DO?

So I just got a German Shepherd and my cat is not having it! The new dog is only trying to smell her and she chases the cat when my cat starts to run (obviously) but then my cat just gets in a pissed off mood and scratches and hisses at me if I try to touch her. This happened before when we first got my other chihuahua too, she gets all territorial like "I've been here the longest this is my house" and attacks! How can I get her to stop being so aggressive and let the new dog smell her without growling and attacking? Its so annoying, she did get used to the chihuahua after like 2 weeks and now they can be right next to each other but ever since we brought home the new dog she's been attacking the old dog too!!??? She's under my bed right now, growling and hiding. What can I do?

Is it the cat that's mean, or has it been you a little bit, in not thinking enough about how the animals were going to get along? Cats and dogs traditionally don't, but that doesn't mean they can't. However they need time and patience. Your cat is terrified of the dog. This has been her territory and she now sees not only your dog, but you, as the enemy for not only introducing a potential enemy to her, but for spoiling her previously peaceful and safe environment. You need to separate them now. Cat in one room, dog in the other. Your cat needs all her facilities close by her... litter tray, food and water, though she may not feel like eating for a while. Give her time to adjust to the sound and smell of the dog in the house. After a few days, leave the door to the cat's room open, but make sure she has somewhere high to jump when the dog inevitably comes looking for her. This separation is best for the dog too. Cat scratches on the nose or in the eyes can cause severe injury to your dog, and you won't be able to blame the cat because it will have been your fault. Let them take as long as is necessary to get to know each other, and be prepared for the fact that they may never much like each other. Still, some end up the best of friends, if you take the time and thought to think about their differing needs, and introduce them slowly.

You knew what you were getting into from past experience, so what did you expect to be different? Cats aren't mean; they cope with their issues as best they can. You have created a major issue for your cat.

This poor cat is terrified she is going to be killed and it sounds like you want to let it happen. Bringing home a large dog that is allowed to chase the cat was an incredibly stupid thing to do. GSDs rip cats to shreds quite often. Poor cat doesn't have anywhere to call home and you obviously can't be trusted. Either find a new home for the GSD or give the cat to someone who will appreciate her. If you were trying to make this work, you would NEVER have let the dog chase her in the first place.

She is scared out of her mind! What's wrong with you?! She is not being territorial she is fighting for her life. You've brought in dogs and to her they don't belong there. On top of it they chase her! The smaller dog is on the high prey list and all they know is if it runs, chase it and kill it. The larger dog may not be on the list but it's big and it chases her. All she knows is that she is no longer safe in her own house. Dogs should be obedience trained to sit, stay, and leave it! You're in a snit because your cat is afraid for its life. And yet you turn your dogs lose to scare the cat. If you don't want your dog's eye clawed out from a terrified cat then YOU need to be training those dogs!

I'm pretty sure you never did an introduction process to help them get along. All this is on YOU not the cat and not the dogs.

http://www.americanhumane.org/animals/adoption-pet-care/dog-behavior/introducing-dogs-to-cats.html - what you should have done but didn't and the damage is done. There are no do-overs in introduction.

Newsflash: Cats and dogs don't get along. Been going on for hundreds and hundreds of years. And yet people still go, "Duh, why is this happening?" or "But this is MY cat. MY cat won't do that." YOUR cat is still a cat and dumbass pet owners are still dumbass pet owners.

Cats are NOT MEAN. You need to take control over BOTH of those
dogs. DO NOT let either one of them chase your cat. A good loud
NO! when one of them starts should make them eventually catch
on. Dogs learn about other dogs by sniffing them. Cats are better
mannered than that. If the cat does not want the dog/s sniffing at
her she has the right to stop them. Maybe you should find another
good home for your cat AWAY FROM DOGS.

Give her another few days or a week or so but then otherwise maybe see a vet or someone like that about it.

Get a cast with metal, wood, plaster, or any other material and put it on your arm for protection. Then grab that kitty and hold on for dear life. :)
