A school is going to conduct a satisfaction level survey of the school canteen. the sample size of this survey is 100 and the questionnaires will be distributed according to the ratio of student and staff. there are 960 students and 40 staffs in this school.

(a) How many students should be selected?
(b) How many staffs should be selected?
(c) Which sampling method is applied in the survey?

Consider the ratio.

(a)
The number of students should be selected
= 100 × 960/(960 + 40)
= 100 × 960/1000
= 96

(b)
The number of staff members should be selected
= 100 × 40/(960 + 40)
= 100 × 40/1000
= 4

P.S. There is no such a word called "staffs".

(c)
Stratified sampling.
The stratum (plural: strata) is the type of school members (student or staff).
