It's physical history.

Excavated objects like coins, weapons, brick walls, and pottery can all be appreciated for their aesthetic artistry. But the main purpose of archeology is to analyze these dug up artifacts to help reconstruct the history of the society that made them.

Finding a nice iron arrowhead can look cool in a collection, but for the archeologist it's the fact that it's made of iron and of a specific design that will tell them when and from how developed a society the arrowhead came. Once that information is put into historical context it can help verify that a certain battle did occur on the location where the arrowhead was found.

Neither, it is a science.

History that may evaluate the art.

It depends. An archaeologist who is studying a hunting gathering culture of 10,000 years ago will be doing science. An archaeologist who is studying the roman empire may be doing more art? An archaeologist who is studying classic Maya sites may be doing more history.
