What are the differences between black children and white children?

I am writing a story, and my main character was adopted by a white family, when she is African American. I find myself stuck at a paragraph where she's basically reminiscing about what her life would have been like if she hadn't been given up. It started like this.

"Sometimes I wondered what my life would be like if my parents had actually wanted me. Maybe I would've grown up differently, with a mom who actually knew what to do with my hair, or..."

I don't know what else to use! I used hair because we (African Americans) don't have the same hair texture as white people, but what else can I put? I don't know why I'm having so much trouble. Thank you!

My cousin is African American and was adopted by my aunt and uncle who are white. my aunt and uncle are fairly well off and live in a nice house and a nice neighborhood. Her birth family, however, was not well off and gave her up for adoption because they didn't think they would be able to afford to give her a good life.

In this situation, I'm sure she would wonder how different her life would be if she had grown up with her birth mother. She certainly wouldn't have been able to do many of the things shes gotten to do in her life. Other than that, she doesn't really think of herself as any different from her parents. She knows she's loved and cared for, even if my aunt may not always know what to do with her hair.

As for your question, it depends mostly on the status of the families we are talking about. If I knew that, I could probably help out more. Good luck with your story!

As a biracial child of black and white mix, I was adopted and raised by a white woman from a month old. Even though my mom is white, she raised me to apreciate both of my heritages as well as shy a way from some of the more negative aspects associated with "black culture" (in otherwords dont be a ghetto steriotype or try to be gangsta, which I did slip in and out of in school due to being bullied by white students, I saw being "gangsta" as the only way to get them off my back..it worked for a time)

but not every white family with a black child is the same. that goes for black families as well...The Huxtables from The Cosby show were very different to the Family on Good Times. where as Full house (which is the blandest whitest show ever) had no substance to it.

I think the physical attributes should really be the only difference. When writing a story about both white and black characters, it's very important to make sure that the story does not revolve around the stereotypes that accompany the ethnicity of the characters, for fear of being problematic. See the tv show Different Strokes, which focuses on the same ideas you want to write about without being racist or problematic. The only difference between whites and blacks other than culture and appearance is the way that they are treated/seen by society

i remember this cowboy movie. two brothers one black one white are attending their father in his final hours. the black one is asked to remain while the white one leaves. the father passes away. then the black brother exits the cabin the white one asks what their father told him in secret. the black brother says "he told me I was adopted." "you didn't believe him did you?" "no of course not" the other one laughs.

i guess the only real difference is that the character never has to ask if they were adopted. of course when asking the parent can respond that the "foundling" fantasy is the most common delusion in modern people.

honestly going to ridiculous extremes and humor is the only way to go. the idea that the child is the lost royalty of some nation or the missing child of nelson Mandela. think of some extreme that a child may think of and use that.

in the end race is like money, its only real because people think its real. paper shells shiny pebbles glass beads. the second it no longer matters, it no longer matters.

This is almost impossible to solve without straying into racial stereotyping. She might have had to live with people wondering if she was really part of her white family, maybe she's felt she doesn't really belong, maybe she's wished for a sibling who was African-American. I think you would be fine emphasizing her feelings of "otherness" rather than specific circumstances like "my white family is well to do but my black family probably isn't".

There's nothing cut and dried - which city did they live in? What economic area did they live in? What was the family life like? Was the area integrated? Was it no big deal what color anyone was? What year are you placing this in?

I cbf writing a paragraph for you, but a huge part of the paragraph would be is the kid from the ghetto or a rich black family? This will change things A LOT, just because of the activities shared between mother/father and child. (Not the be mean but the ghetto kid probably didn't have a father anyway lol) (literally not meant to be racist or anything just pointing it out)

Well, the only thing that is different is Their physical appearance. In reality we are all born with paper skin. By paper I of course mean money. Their is a song by Snoop Dogg that kind of applies. It goes money makes a man and that's a crime. Personally I think that it should be money makes a person and that's a crime to make it a little sexist. But that part doesn't matter. When I was seven years old I found out the hard way that people don't have white skin brown skin they all have paper skin. Okay to tell you the truth I didn't find that out until I was twenty. How old am I you may be asking right now. Well I will tell you in a math problem. When a boy tells you he had seven green apples and six yellow apples and seven orange oranges how hard do you have to hit him to knock him out. Please show your work and no calculaters. Thank you for your time this is The Amazing piece the **** out.
