I recall the story of a college student who needed an extra job to pay for expenses, so learned to be a tarot card reader. He didn't believe in it, but money was money. To his surprise, when he would read the cards to people, they would be amazed at how he could know so much about them. He was so astounded that just for curiosity's sake, he decided to do a reading, but give the exact opposite information from what the cards said. The very first person he did that to told him that she had never had such an exact accurate reading of her in her entire life. That's when he realized how the cards really worked.
There are plenty of videos on YT that explain how the psychic phenomenon works. Basically it requires making general statements that could be applied to anyone, watching for reactions to steer the questioning, and quickly covering up false hits. Below is a one of the better videos.
