Vatican: Under Threat?

Not sure if anyone might have much information on this topic, but the thought occured to me: the Vatican seems like a great terrorist target, have they ever been attacked? Are there many defense parameters in place right now? Do they receive a lot of threats? Thoughts would be appreciated

ISIS just announced they were coming to Rome. They didn't mean Rome, they meant the center of Christianity - the Vatican. There is a Vatican guard but they could be overpowered with enough zealots.

ISIS announced that Rome is in their plan as an important place to attack since it is the location of the beginning of Christianity. And Rome plays a role not only in Biblical eschatology but in Islamic end times as well.
I do know that the Italian government is increasingly concerned since ISIS made the most recent threat against Rome and the Vatican.
