Do you preferred to be called "singles" or "unmarried"?

I am a proud singles and I see there is nothing wrong with it. However, in a church gathering, I was referred to "unmarried" which strike me at the head. Why people are divided into "unmarried" and "married" rather than "singles" and "not-single". Was I being too sensitive? What's your thought on this?

Probably single.. I think it's silly to categorize people into 'married' and 'unmarried'. There is no need for that. Some people choose to never get married and would probably feel bad if an individual referred to them as 'unmarried'.

In many cases, boyfriends and girlfriends don't matter (legally). So, in that case, all that matters is if you are married or unmarried. If you (or whatever) cares if you have a special someone, then single or not single or in a relationship or married would be a better continuum to use.

there is a difference between single and unmarried. Single means no boyfriend and not married but unmarried could mean with boyfriend but not married so therefore if they refereed to you as unmarried they said a more general term, it dosent nessiserly mean you dont have a boyfriend.
