Car insurances UK - Once you have their quote, can they charge you extra?

I was wondering that once you get a quote online for the car insurance and made a payment.

Maybe in due course, the company will ask to pay extra money because of the error on their system OR otherwise they can cancel the policy.

Are they able to bully customers like this - once you get a quote that is cheaper, later in the week, they will send you a letter and say you need to pay extra £££.

Thanks all all reponces :) I was thinking the lower price they put onto the system is a marketing statergie to attract customers. Once hooked with the quote, they can than take out more money out of you.

The quote is an estimate based on the information you gave them. When you actually apply if there are things you "forgot"to mention the actual premium can indeed increase, but you can accept or reject at that point and keep looking.

The rules in the UK are the same as the rules anywhere else: Yes they can do that.

When you get an insurance quote, it's an estimate based on the information you provided. It says right on the printout that it's only an estimate, and the final price will be based on verification of the info you provided.

If the verification does not match the information you provided, you can absolutely count on being charged more for your insurance coverage.
