Any thoughts about Obamas' overture towards normalizing relations with Cuba? Should it be done or not done?

I think the Cuban embargo has clearly failed. Normalizing relations with Cuba would actually give us more control of the situation than we have now. Everyone though Nixon was a hero for normalizing relations with China, even though Nixon himself was one of the people who had previously made that impossible.

Like Obama said (and lots of people), if you try something and it doesn't work for 50 years, it's time to try something else!

The only thing that Obama has done or proposed in six years that makes sense

Unless you believe in a whole populaton should be suffering for over 50 years. I cant see any reason why Cuba should be cut off from its closest neighbor. U.S. puts pressure on other countries to comply with its policies. Too bad a country with that kind of power uses it malevolently.

A representative from Cuba pleaded to the United Nations. He says Cuban government doesn't have the resources to continue, he says this has cost them approximately $1.2 trillion. He complains that millions of Cubans left for other parts of the world to find prosperity to escape Castro's rule. Cuba hasn't even so much as threatened us for 50 years. Then Obama says, "It's not working" and doesn't even attempt to follow that statement up with an argument, when, in fact, it is working exactly as planned.

It's long overdue. It doesn't make sense to have the embargo against Cuba. We don't like Cuba because they are Communist and evil, yet two of our largest trading partners are China and Vietnam, both of which are also Communist.

Do It! so I can go

Do it. Fifty years of treating Cuba like our toilet hasn't changed a thing. The embargo has meant keeping ordinary Cubans in poverty and hardship when ordinary Cubans are not to blame for political differences. Let's start treating them like worthwhile human beings and that'll encourage them to force changes in their own government.

Castro is nearly finish even though the $hit-head won't go ahead and kick the bucket.. It's not the publics fault the he is in fact a $hit-head that needs to go..
and it as been 50 years since the they wanted to destroy the planet.. And, they don't have those damned missles pointed at us any more.. Reinstating diplomatic
and eccononic relations could be benificial for both Cuba and America..
If I were in congress I would be inclined to dissmiss all sanctions with Cuba and reestablish diplomatic relations with that country.....
