Why S2(sulfer) cant form instead of S8?

Sulfer (2,8,6) has 6 e– in the valence orbit.

So only 2 atoms can share their 2 e– each and complete the orbits. But actually that don't happen. WHY ?

Sulphur DOES have S2 but its way LESS stable then S8 so they adopt S8 structure
