Refugees are running to Italy?

Why does refugees from Syria and Iraq....go to Italy? I mean l know there are wars and poverty, but why Italy? Why don't they go to Turkey or Arabia?

i'm not saying they are running from their religion, but wars and poverty.

They want to go to Europe where there are jobs and prosperity. Italy's handy - it's a bit of Europe that sticks out into the sea.

If you were a Muslim trying to escape a Muslim country because of sectarian threats/violence because of the sect of Islam you belong to, then probably the last place you would want to go to is another Muslim country.

They come here because it's closest to their shores and they know we can't (unfortunately) send them back. Immigrants are treated better than italians in Italy.
