Since 1 L=1000 mL (L=Liters, and mL=millilitres)

so 1 mL=0.001 L

How many liters in a millilitres?

...a fractional quantity...

1000 ml = 1 L

so...1 ml = (1/1000) L = 0.001 L

simple decimal conversion !!

i guess you asked wrong question. but still you will get answer.
1 liter = 1000 milliliter
now you decide, how many milliliters you thought of and divide it with 1000. you will get your liter.

"How many liters in a millilitres?"

Not much, because 1 milli-liter is 1000 times as small as 1 liter. Therefore,

1 milli-liter =
= 1/1000 liter
= 0.001 liter

(I'm spelling "milli-liter" with a hyphen on purpose, to improve readability for a new learner, although the actual word is spelled without a hyphen.)
By the way, "milliliter" means "a thousandth of a liter". "Milli-" is derived from French "mille" and Latin "milia", which means "thousand". Think also of "millennium", which is a period of 1000 years.

Likewise, "centiliter" means "a hundredth of a liter". "Centi-" is derived from French "cent" and Latin "centum", which means "hundred". Think also of "century", which is a period of 100 years.

I hope this helps.

1000 milliliters = 1 liter, so 1 milliliter = 1/1000 liters

Milli = 1,000, so 1 LITER is equal to 1,000 MILLILITERS: 1 L = 1,000 mL; Dividing both sides by 1,000 gets you 1/1000 L = 1,000/1,000 mL which means that 1/1000 L = 1 mL (answering your question).

Another way of thinking of this, is the KHDUDCM trick. (King Henry Doesn't Usually Drink Chocolate Milk; stands for Kilo Hecto Deca Unit Deci Centi Milli)

Going from Liters to Milliliters, you get: U -> D -> C -> M Since you have 1 Liter, moving the decimal place 3 places gets you 1,000. Going the other way, starting at 1 Milliliter, going from Milliliters to Liters, you get:
U <- D <- C <- M which gives you .001 L

Other notes: 1/1000 is the same thing as .001. Type 1 / 1,000 in to your calculator if you aren't sure.

Hope this helped. =)
