Define Best - Best value, best reliability, best design, best fuel mileage, best accelerations best options, best standard features, etc.

Most of the aforementioned are mutually exclusive.

From experience about reliability and quality of Chrysler and Jeep are at the bottom of the US manufacturers - Toss-up between GM and Ford - both are very good.
Most Japaneses and the Korean brands are quite good for the price.
I have a poor opinion about the euro-trash over priced vehicles and wouldn't own one as they don't shine (for the cost) above other brands from my POV.

Toyota has the best resale value and dependability.

I hear the most positive comments about Toyotas' being reliable. They are a little expensive though. I'm driving a Nissan that I bought new in 2008 and have had no problems with. And the price was $5,000.00 cheaper than a comparable Toyota.

As someone that diagnoses and repairs cars for a living this is my 2 cents
Euro: sturdy, mostly reliable, develop large problems that are typically easy to figure out and repair, but can be insanely expensive.
American: sturdy, less reliable due to multiple small issues that are always easy to figure out and repair at the cheapest prices in the game.
Korean: garbage!! Its like a scooter with a shell. Somethings always leaking or sounds funny. Broken timing components and bent valves all the time. Its the only type of car that RUNS GREAT then just complely dies with no warning what so ever all the time no matter what then you fix it and something completely unrelated goes 2 days later and the customer comes back and says "seems kind of funny that you replaced my cylinder head and then magically my back wheels falls off" like i had something to do with their decision to buy a friggin daewoo.
Japanese: can be sturdy or tin can style like a Korean car depending on how much you spend, typically have fewer issues for longer periods of time. When they break, THEY REALLY BREAK!

As good as nearly any TOYOTA is, my is STILL AUDI< which is a NO COMPROMISE CAR and the SAFEST and most efficient in many ways, and will NEVER EVER RUST! It has a unique SUSPENSION and steering system that only MUSTANG has been able to copy and use in 2015! , and Honda are ALSO excellent and share many auto systems together, like BRAKES< STARTERS< and ALTERNATORS as well! CB is UNTRAINED! EURO CARS lead the auto world with SONAR and RADAR that avoids ALL accidents and take over in case driver SLEEPS or something wil happen! GM is the BOTTOM Of the heap with the most DATED engines and trannies and POOREST mileages out there! CHRYSLER Is STILL using MERCEDES TECHNOLOGY and EUROPEAN ideation in engineering! GM ENGINES still lack the POWER and stability of FORD ENGINES and STILL use PUSH RODS most times! WORST FUEL MILEAGE and no where near the UPDATED European leadership in FORD vehicles! GM has TOO MANY LAWSUITS and the CAMAROS fro a few years ago have the engine HALFWAY into the cockpit and do DISMALLY in crash testing! EUROPEAN CARS are the SAFEST and the most advanced and AUDI wins nearly every race it ever enters,m even with TURBO DIESEL and HYBRID technology! FORD now is copying what AUDI used in 2001, the TWIN TURBO V6! MUSTANG is copying the AUDI suspensions from 2000 as well! TOYOTA is the most trouble free and has been so since about 1980! GM still has MULTIPLE FAILURES that could have been STOPPED years ago and the BUICK line-up still is TRUSTY as a MAYTAG but wastes energy and fuel! The 3.8 should be updated to a DOUBLE OVERHEAD CAM design! GM steering still lacks the precision of either a CHRYSLER or a FORD using ZF European steering! BUICKS are STILL NUMB and most are NOW made in KOREA and CHINA and feed the GM CEO"s not the US economy and workers either! GM has the MOST damaging CRASH TEST reports of ANY car company and the most RECALLS for stupid things like COOLANT< AIR BAGS< and IGNITION SWITCHES! AUDI is the MOST advanced and nearly FLAWLESSLY produced car using the BEST materials known out there! BEST in CRASH TESTING< and BEST in balance between POWER and ECONOMY using the latest ZF DUAL CLUTCH TRANNIES and REAL race track engine technology for YEARS!

If you want somebody's opinion like mine, with 35 years experience in automotive including 25 years in fleet: Toyota, honda, Nissan. Reliability is the number one criteria, for me anyway. I would not seriously consider any other brand. Just because I can no longer spend any more Sunday nights on my back underneath a car, with a trouble light in my hand and wrenches on the ground, desperately trying to get a car fixed to make it to work the next morning.
If you really want to know what problems you might have with a car, and avoid a lot of expense in the future, join a forum about the car you are thinking about getting. And just ask the members. They have the forums subdivided into model and year so just go there and research what problems they have with these vehicles. One time I was thinking of a Chevy volt - until i went to their forums. Shocking, if you'll excuse the pun. Owners said their car would die from driving through a big puddle and it was a common issue. that was all I needed to know about Chevy Volt.

It really does depend on your definition of "best". That reputation of Toyota is not false. They make some of the most reliable vehicles on the planet. But in terms of performance or luxury or price it depends. Narrow down your criteria.
