Because I saw a comment in this forum saying that they are "overrated movies in history". Do you agree with that?

Well, "Titanic" and "Avatar" are two of the most overrated movies in history.

I do. James Cameron movies, are for the MOST part, about pioneering special effects........and practically ZERO plot.

Titanic..............well, we already knew the plot and what happens.......the ship sinks.......but it won rave reviews for the computer special effects, and of course, because he BUILT a mini replica Titanic set down in Mexico.......and the film was visually awesome.......but there are entire websites out there dedicated to pointing out all the technical and plot flaws with the film, which literally contains HUNDREDS of mistakes,.....slopping editing...........film crews reflected in the glass, hanging mike books........etc.
He clearly put 99% of the effort into the special effects...........but short changed a great many other areas.

Avatar was the same thing......DAZZLING eye poppping special effects.......he use miles of LED cable lighting........yes, yes, all visually stunning........but plot holes you could have driven a MAC Truck thru......and the plot and story writing was pure HACK crap. I mean, you could have guessed the entire movie, and how it was gonna end.

Sanctum.........again, the man literally had to INVENT (, and DID, ) new underwater filming techniques, to give us the shots he gave us in that film......and they were indeed ground breaking and breath taking.

But once again...............about a nickel spent on plot, and the acting was all purely 3rd string.

There is no doubt the man is a technical wizard, and clearly knows his stuff on that aspect of things.......but the movies, as a Whole.............were NOT all that great.

the special effects were GREAT.........not the movies themselves.

Having said that...........Titanic and Avatar are two of the top money grossing films of all time........so, apparently eye popping special effects sell.

But Avatar was a cliched mess.....and the editing in Titanic was just flat out non-existent. One minute they're under water, the next bone dry.......then under water again,, then blown dry hair......then under water one more time, the next, perfectly dried clothes..........and no one caught this.

It was amatuerishly sloppy editing.

All Cameron movies are overrated. They try to make up for no plot in other ways, but ultimately his gimmicks fall flat if you put any analysis whatsoever into his work.
