You may want to go to court and contest so you don't get points in your driving record. (your insurance rates will go up if you have points).

To contest, on back of ticket will be instructions, saying "if you wish to contest, pls go to court on this date and time." There is no charge for going to court.

In court, judge will ask you what happened. Judge will decide.

You may get out of not having points in your drivers license. You may be told to do certain hrs of community service in lieu of points.

But I don't think judge will cancel your fine. Then you go to the cashier's desk and pay your fine.

(I did this for a speeding ticket.) When you go in front of judge, pls dress very professional, be prepared, and let judge do the talking. Don't interrupt the judge.

If you have questions, you can contact a lawyer in your area.

There are some violations that are considered very serious: speeding in a school zone during school hours, DUI, etc. because you are endangering lives of others.

cops don't set the fines for the violations, they just hand out the tickets

if your innocent than contest it

fines are set by dept of motor vehicles or the courts

not the officer who wrote the ticket

150 is probably the minimum

The reason the citation is so costly is that driving the wrong way on a one-way street is extremely dangerous as it can easily lead to a crash with vehicles or pedestrians who expect vehicles to come from only one direction. Police don't decide the amount of the citation so disputing the amount will get no traction.

That sounds like a typical amount. The officer doesn't decide how much the fines are.

fine are predetemined by the city, the cop does not pull a number out of his A$$.

Sounds normal to me since you could have had a head on collision and killed someone.

If you are guilty, you should not contest it. If you are not guilty, you should contest it.

The police officer doesn't determine the fine amounts. The city does.

Obviously if you went the wrong way then you are guilty. But if you go to court and explain to them a reason then they may put you on probation. Sometimes if signage is not appropriate then you may get the ticket dropped. Need to take investigate the traffic infraction area to see if signs are missing.

He didn't decide on the amount of the ticket. If you're driving in the opposite direction on a one way road, you can only be guilty. Just go to court, plead guilty, and your fine will be reduced. Please don't mention that the officer was the problem; the judge won't help you much if you do.
