Recently built a new rig.
Asus Sabertooth z97 mk.II mother board
msi gtx 970 graphics card
16 gb ram g.skill ripjaws 2400 ddr3
i7 4790k 1150
Asus PCE-n15 <--the problematic card
samsung 840 evo SSD

So I installed the win 8 drivers from the website because the one preloaded on the disc is compatible only up to win7. After installing the driver, I restart my rig, connect to my wifi network and everything works fine for 2ish minutes. Then all of a sudden the network status shows: "limited." When I adjust my settings in Adapter properties>configure>advanced tab, i change 11n AdHoc and 802.11d back and forth between disabled and enabled settings. Those are temporary fixes that work for a few minutes. I try to troubleshoot my network and in the middle of the diagnostic, My computer freezes.

You may need to change the card or test it in another computer .

If you are using "ad-hoc" it means you are connecting to another computer and not a fixed access point or router. If the other computer has power saving that turns off the connection when the computer isn't in use whatever is connected to it will indeed disconnect! Check to see that the machine you are using as the "host" is set to stay on! It is better to connect to a router or access point than another intermediary. ad-hoc is really only a good choice if nothing else is possible and is really meant for file transfers between computers. It does work but has limitations.
