LDS; What are the 9 tent cities (or nine camps of refuge)? What about them? What are they for? How could I found out more about them?

The Bible details the six cities of refuge that the Israelites built in the promised land. This is detailed in Joshua chapter 20.

Their purpose was to protect anyone who accidentally killed another person. If a man caused another person to be killed unintentionally, he had to flee to one of six cities strategically dotted around the promised land. The elders then would decide if the death was an accident, in which case he could stay there till the death of the High Priest in Jerusalem. But if he ventured beyond the city boundaries before then, the next of kin of the killed person could kill him. This was a severe lesson in how sacred human life is to God. Even unintentional death required the life of the manslayer unless he took shelter in one of the cities of refuge. God provided for that.

I do not know if the LDS have their own take on that in their writings, but that is what the Bible states. Just read Joshua chapter 20 for the original version.

are you talking about SLC homeless? or are you talking about the pioneer trail where cities were made along the way to help support western expansion by pioneers of all Kinds.
my first thought is of the pioneer trail and all the saints that came to SLC to inherit freedom against religious oppression.

i dont know if there were 9 camps of refuge or more, or less, but i did a search on LDSorg and found these references: https://www.lds.org/search?lang=eng&query=nine+cities+refuge
