Did you mean Tom stopped her?
Who was watching? She or Tom?

The tense:-past continuous + past perfect;
stop=to no longer wash=eg :-She was stopped by Tom for watching.
embarrassment=shy, awkward, guilty feelings; feeling of being embarrassed;
Mary was washing dishes but was stopped for the embarrassent in your watching.(your=Tom).
"but" conj. is used to introduce an idea that contrasts with what was talked before:-eg:-Mary was washing. It wasn't now "but" stopped !
You try to contrast with what was said before to complete the part of the sentence.Okay ?
