關於以下句子的being:
Despite the duration of the work experience being quite short, employers would still probably choose a fresh graduate with such experience over one without it.

想問以上為何會用being在quite short 前

而不是Despite the duration of the work experience is quite short, employers would still probably choose a fresh graduate with such experience over one without it.

關於以下句子的being:
Despite the duration of the work experience being quite short, employers would still probably choose a fresh graduate with such experience over one without it.

"Despite" is a preposition, which has to be followed by a noun or noun phrase as its object.

Therefore, "Despite the duration of the work experience is quite short," is not grammatical as a finite verb "is" appears in the prepositional phrase.

"being", the present participle (non-finite verb / verbal) of "be" (linking verb), is used to link up the noun phrase "the duration of the work experience" with the predicative adjective "short". In other word, "being quite short" is a participle phrase (adjectival) modifying the noun phrase.

He is rude.
It is a description or opinion relating to his character in general.
He is being rude.
It tells an opinion about his manner in some defined occasion, or at present moment.

That said, a polite (character) man can be rude sometimes.

Correct preposition: "on" some occasion (not "in" ....)

Being o係句子裏面擔當「主動詞」o既角色,負責承載「處於什麼什麼狀態」的語意。

不同於現在式和過去式(都是 simple aspect),「is」、「was」、「am」、「are」、「were」等等在進行式的動詞結構裏,只是助動詞(即幫助主動詞完成文法結構〔be + V-ing〕的動詞)。

用「being」因為「being」係「be」o既現在分詞,即係 be 加 -ing,按照進行式o既結構要求,要o係「was」呀、「am 呀」呢o的助動詞後面加返一個加o左 -ing o既「主動詞」。

記住,「being」在句子裏是「主動詞」,不可答「分詞」。
因為它是「be」這個「動詞」的現在分詞,絕不是句子的分詞。

(1) 作為be的現在分詞,例如:
Being busy, I can't watch TV now.
我現在很忙,無暇看電視。
(2) 作為be的動名詞,例如:
Being with you makes me happy.
和你一起令我愉快。
(3) 構成被動進行式,例如:
The house is being built.
該大屋正在建造中。
(4) 作為名詞,表示「存在」或「生命」,例如:

That was his reason for being.
那就是他生存的理由。
(5) 表示「人」或「物」,例如:
A human being should do good deeds.
人應該

應該做好事。
(6) 表示「肉體和精神之結合」,例如:
She responded to the music with her whole being.

她身心都陶醉在音樂之中。
(陸谷孫《英漢大詞典》)
(7) 用於慣用語,例如for the time being:
He is staying with his uncle for the time being.

他暫時住在叔父家。

另外

is be, is to be,will be 和is being 用法區別

is be,這種形式不正確,因為is是be動詞,後面不能再加動詞原形be;

is to be,表示“已經確定,確信,確認“之意。例:The boy is to come here.男孩確定要過來。

will be ,是一般將來時,後面加名詞,代詞等可以做表語的成分。例:She will be here tomorrow.她明天在

這裏。

is being ,可以看做是現在進行時的被動語態的構成形式。例:He is being hit b

is being ,可以看做是現在進行時的被動語態的構成形式。例:He is being hit by Father.

主動句是:Father is hitting him.

Never use “despite” to introduce a clause. Instead use “despite” with a present participle (verb + ing).

“Be” can have many forms depending on its subject and on its tense.
Present tense: ~ am, is, are
Past tense :~ was, were.
Past participle :~ been
Present participle:~ being

“the duration of the work experience is quite short” 是一個 clause .
如果這麼寫兩個 clauses 無 conjunction 或 semi-colon, 是 run-on sentence.

用 though (conjunction) 代替 despite (prep)
Though the duration of the work experience is quite short, employers would still probably choose a fresh graduate with such .....

或者 restructure 過, 仍舊用 Despite

Despite the fact that the duration of the work experience is quite short, employers would still probably choose a fresh graduate with such experience over one without it.

Other example: (using “being”)

I am younger than my two brothers. I always had to wear their old clothes. (~ two separate sentences)

Being younger than my two brothers, I always had to wear their old clothes. (~ one sentence, using present participial phrase)
