You could pay a vet to whelp her for you, BUT she'll be far more mentally comfortable to whelp in her familiar surroundings. Of course, if she needs a C.Section, that decision will be made for you!
Any Veterinarian can whelp a litter for you if you pay them to do so, but this isn't common practice. Reputable breeders know what they're doing, and therefore don't need the assistance of a Vet unless a medical emergency issue comes up. If that's the case, they pack up their b*tch and any pups she may have already whelped and head to either their own Vet Clinic if it's open, or and ER Vet Clinic if it isn't. I'm not sure why you've never heard of a dog whelping a litter in a Vet Clinic. C-sections are not all that uncommon, and some c-sections are already planned in advance before a b*tch even goes into labor on their own. Sometimes that can even depend on the breed of dog that's pregnant. For an example, it's pretty normal to schedule a c-section for a Bulldog. Many dogs that have large heads whereas their shoulders are even wider that their heads, usually don't whelp naturally, even though sometimes it is possible without any complications. So yes, some pregnant b*tches DO whelp in a Vet Clinic, whether naturally or by c-section.
If something is going wrong during whelping or the owner is afraid something will go wrong, then whelping can be done in a veterinary hospital. It is not recommended unless something is very wrong because the stress of being in a strange place and among strangers can cause the b*tch to delay whelping and/or reject the pups,
Yes of course. When my female had her litter, 2 of the pups were born at home. We were in constant contact with the vet and when puppy #3 was not making an appearance 4 hours later, we picked up and took her to the vet.
Ended up puppy #4 was born in the backseat of the car no the Verrazano Narrows Bridge during Memorial Day rush hour traffic.
Puppy #4 and 5 was born naturally at the vets and at midnight, puppy #6 was c-section, since she was to big to pass thru the birth canal and the dog was exhausted.
The vet knew we were coming, gave us our own exam room, gave us 2 vet techs to assist and I continued to help my female whelp. They gave her fluids and oxytocin (sp?) The vet and vet techs were wonderful.
We got home @ 2a.m. with a very tired mama and 6 beautiful healthy pups.
Any vet will supervise a delivery for a fee, but home is more common. Our vet would come right to our home. Even AFTER our b i t c h bit him, needing 3 stitches!
You can let it give birth in the house. But I prefer it giving birth in an animal hospital.
We do C-Sections where I work, if they are necessary. The only other time we have had puppies or kittens was when a dog was boarding and had them during that time.
To have a dog give birth in a hospital would mean boarding over the last days, since nobody would know exactly when the birth would happen.
If the dog needs a C-section, then it usually goues to the animal hospital to have it done.
Of course there are animal hospitals and vet clinics where you can take your dog for them to whelp. Try looking up vet clinics/animal hospitals it is NOT THAT DIFFICULT to do if you try using the search bar.
