好問題！

對於你現時問的問題（主動式 active voice）：
do 之後要跟動詞 (verb)，
is/am/are 之後要跟形容詞 (adjective)。

hungry (饑餓) 是一個形容詞，所以要用 is/am/are。
Are you hungry?
你肚餓嗎？

如果你是配動詞，那就可以用 do。
例如：feel 是動詞：
Do you feel hungry?
你感到肚餓嗎？

更多例子：
Do you like it? (like 是動詞)
Do you agree with me? (agree 是動詞)
Are you okay? (okay 在這裏是形容詞)
Are you comfortable? (comfortable 是形容詞)


以上的規則是用於主動式 (active voice)，若你將來學了被動式 (passive voice)，那麼 is/am/are 之後也可以配動詞。
例如：
Are the mails sent?
Is the work completed?

主要區別字是 adjective 或 verb
Do you + verb (the base form) ….. ?
Are you + adjective …. ?

base form of verb 最簡單形式那個,
例如 go, 不是 goes, going, went, gone

小心 afraid, able 是形容詞, 不是動詞

Does he have a car?
除了 Yes/No,
He has a car.
He does not have a car.
He does have a car. (does 用來加強語氣, 用 have)
