Trying to get a Navy Seal contract.?

So I'm working my a$$ off at the gym for the special operations PST with hopes of getting a contract to go to bud/s. What I am wondering is that my asvab score was a little low, I got a 47. I'm going in the pact seaman program right now. When I take the pst I am going to crush it and get all optimum scores for everything. If this is the case what will happen with my low asvab score?

An added word of caution if I may. Any posted standards are minimums. You're expected to exceed them.

SEAL is competitive. If there are 20 openings for SEALs and 200 are trying for them, it's likely that 180 of them are going to be disappointed... no matter how many of what they did in what time, or how high they scored on some test. Oh, some of them might be assigned to an SBU somewhere if there's a need, but unlikely to one of the Teams.

Brawn's the easiest thing. I think just about anybody can get into shape if they try.

Brains are tougher. There aren't any obvious improvements. You don't look any better. You don't feel any better. And whereas you can get into shape in a few months, getting your GPA up can take several semesters. Over half of the SEALs have college degrees... or at least that used to be the case. Of course all the officers have them, but a surprising number of enlisted guys do too.

If you can find a BUD/S Warning Order online, that'll give you some of the easy stuff. I suspect there's ASVAB requirements posted somewhere too.

The hardest thing to improve is "the man"... who you are. It's a total of all your experiences to date. Want to know if you're even close? Look up the SEAL Creed. It's not a bunch of coo-sounding words to memorize. It's not lofty goals for which you have to strive. To a SEAL, it's who he is. You're that man... NOW... or you're not.

Another word of caution: They really aren't going to care if you can do an O-course in 10 minutes with a 3-bedroom house on your back while delivering a lecture on cosmic string theory. They're looking at who you are. You wouldn't be in the program if you couldn't do the stuff. They're more interested in if you ACTUALLY DO it... when the stuff is hitting the fan and flying all over the place. Will you complete the mission... on your own if necessary? Do they feel comfortable trusting you with their lives... and the lives of their buddies? You can't tell them that stuff... in fact, if you try to do so it'll probably do more harm than good. You have to show them... and show them... and show them... etc. In the SEAL Creed there's a passage that says "... wearing the Trident... is a privilege that I must earn every day."

The Navy doesn't "make" SEALs. SEALs just show up at Coronado... along with a big bunch of guys who are absolutely certain they have what it takes. First, the Navy demonstrates to those in the big second group that they're sorely mistaken. After that group's learned their lesson and left, the Navy undertakes to train the SEALs.

Me? Retired Navy after about a quarter century... first 4 enlisted, the rest commissioned... and I got to know a few SEALs along the way.

Currently, with the overall score of 47, you would be lucky to even get to enlist in the Navy in the first place, let alone getting a SEAL Contract.

ASVAB Waiver is considered on the case by case basis. And if your Mechanical Apprehension is more than 5 pts below the minimum, then you will not be granted a waiver. Additionally, if there are more qualified-applicants than there are the contract-given, then why would anyone wants to grant you a waiver?

It takes a lot more than just muscles to get through BUD/S; perhaps, you are better off as a Grunt Maurine.

if you do not have the minimum qualifying scores on the asvab for the SO rate

then your NOT Gonna be able to take the PST

2. so the question is -- did you make the line scores necessary for the rate or not

and with a 47 afqt score -- i seriously doubt it

IE: they are not gonna waive the asvab requirements, just because you can make a great PST score

"Pact Seaman"

**** that, if you're seriously considering the Navy do everything possible to get a rate because striking for a rate if awful. Also in order to even take the PST you have to be SO eligible which requires you to meet specific line scores not just your overall AFQT score. Also statistically most Team Guy hopefuls have scores of 80 or above. If you're seriously considering NSW, start doing the 26 Week SEAL/SWCC workout, otherwise you're going to be paying the man.

I don't know but my guess is you won't qualify...Seals are not only incredible athletes but also must have high IQ's...they are expected to do stuff like disarm nukes on top of being highly trained killers....47 means you score in the bottom 50%...that's not Seal material.
