Is it possible to have panic attacks without being particularly anxious beforehand?

Hi!

So since June I've been having panic attacks. The first few times I had them, it was due to the situation(s) I was in, and they were (to me) reasonable reactions to things that were happening. However, recently my panic attacks have just been at random times for no apparent reason. For example, today I went to see my grandma and had a really nice day, and I've just come home and started to have a panic attack. Nothing has happened, and even as I type this, I don't FEEL anxious. Is this normal? If you have panic attacks, has this ever happened to you?

Also, is it normal to sometimes just have one or two symptoms that you get during a panic attack (for example: rapid heart beat, shallow breathing and racing thoughts) without having a full-blown panic attack? Or being able to have these symptoms and still be able to function (unlike with a real panic attack where you basically can't do anything but sit down and try and calm yourself down)?

Thanks in advance for your help :)

Yes all of it happens to many of us.

I personally got panic attacks at moments when I least expected them. I actually thought I was having a heart attack. It is like the stress builds up and comes out at random times.

I hate panic attacks so much that I have learn to NOT have them. It took time to learn how to breath the right way and also to relax parts of me that HAD to learn that to STOP the attacks.
You have to hate the attacks so much that you learn to breath through them.

Sit down and take slow deep breaths through nose and then exhale very slow out of mouth. Focus on relaxing the muscles that start to twist and turn. To me it is a bit like breathing during child birth. If you can get counseling on how to relax would be good. I haven't had a full blown attack for several years now.

It would be helpful for you to get to the root of what is causing the anxiety. I really had no clue of the why..... eventually I figured it out and got counseling.

Exercise is essential to help you get rid of the attacks. Walking briskly, swimming, Yoga, running and so on.

Take good care of yourself. Cut out junky food and get plenty of rest, Get your life balanced.
