“去旅行 “ = go travelling, 非常貼切
trip 未必是旅行, 或者解 “外出”
可能是 business, camping, hunting, fishing, shopping….

這裏你的重要溝通是"你將會去旅行..."

我去旅行不是I go to travel
travel當然可以是名詞
但你本身是去旅行的這個人講時travel便是作動詞來寫/講
所以"你go"的意思甚實英文是I will(將要)
因此先寫好
I will travel to (?Where)或I will take a trip to ??去那裏亦是重要的...
假如你還未決定或者未肯定，全句便要改為另一種"意識"
I will go on a trip.[這句等於"我會行開吓"咁籠統]
或
I will take a leave of absence.[假如是工作的放假]

你想講的after finished exam...是可以的，但是

finishing本身present participle是要指一樣發生中的情況，finish本身不可能是發生中的情況...所以很少見共且不合理。

即是說你設計/描寫的情況不會(不可能)以present participle來表達/形容/寫/講。

從這例子希望你明白不是任何一個可以加ing的詞也可以變身present participle; 或不是任何可以加ed的動詞都可以變身past participle的。主要是你要清楚自己在講甚麼。

舉一例子寫法:
Hearing the music on the radio, I sing along.
(一邊)聽著收音機播放的樂曲，我便跟著唱起歌來。

如果你想說：
完成考試之後，我會去旅行。 (去旅行 = go travelling)

I will go travelling after I finish the exam.


過去式可以這樣說的：
Having finished the exam, I went travelling for two weeks.
After I finished the exam last year, I went travelling for two weeks.
