I want another dog?

Never buy from a pet store. You just put money in the pockets of puppy millers if you do that. Didn't you know that all pet store puppies come from puppy mills?

If you want another dog, do as your mother suggests. Take better care of the one you have.

By doing all of the work with the one you have.

1, petshop puppies are from puppy mills, its irresponsible to buy them.
2. $400 is a lot of money... it will be another thousand or so to vet and care for the second dog over the course of the year. You have NO clue what kind of expense you are asking.
3. Mom will be the one stuck taking care of the dog(s) when you go off to college or move out.
4. Clearly you are not responsible enough with the current dog if mom doesn't think you can handle two.
5. Be glad you have a dog at all, so many kids have NO pets.

That's too bad. Pet stores are one of the worst possible places to get a dog and you would be supporting Puppy Mills if you were to get a dog from a Pet Store. You are not responsible enough to take proper care of the dog you already have. You will not be responsible for a new dog either. Concentrate on starting to take proper care of your current dog. Your mom does not want the responsibility or the expense of another dog. You can't have everything you want in life. You will understand why as you get older. Your mother told you NO. Nothing you say or do is going to change her mind. When you are old enough to get a secure job, save a good amount of money, get your own place, pay your own Rent and Bills and you can take proper care of yourself and a dog, then you can get any kind of a dog that you want. Until that happens, the answer is NO. Respect your mom's decision and move on.

Well maybe she knows that she can't afford vet bills for two dogs, you need to respect her wishes. You are lucky to have a dog, some people can't afford one.

And as others had said, pet stores are not the best place to get dogs from.
