You can use human shampoo, and you can rinse with then water with some vinegar in it to cut any soap. Then rinse with more water, and you can even use a conditioner.
Don't give your dog a bath more than about 4 times a year. You will strip all of the oils out of the skin and hair, and cause itching.
Wash you dog no more than once every 6 weeks unless on the advise of a vet. Any more than that strips skin and fur of vital oils and can cause painful skin conditions and matting. Human shampoo is fine, esp the coal tar variety. dog shampoo is formulated especially for fur which is different from hair, so I try to stick with that.
dawn is a good substitute also baby shampoo (johnsons is really good option) because it doesn't cause the dog to tear if it gets in the eye's any shampoo can work but needs to be watered down some because you don't want to strip the oils out of dog fur like humans like to. never wash your dog more than once every six weeks. if you have a longer haired dog or a hound that has an odor if you buy a good deshedding tool that will help a lot. also when washing a dog keep the water luke warm (dogs overheat easily) and wash the dog body twice while keeping the head dry until the very end. if you want to prevent your dog from shaking until you are ready simple hold there muzzle they can't start the motion unless they sttart at the head so if you control that they can't do it until you are ready.
I use Gain dish liquid for my inside dog and you can also use Dawn. But also make sure to not wash them more than once every one or two months.
Use dog shampoo. It has a different ph balance and is milder than human shampoo. You should not need to wash a dog more than once a month.
Dettol is considered unsafe for dogs - it's highly toxic to cats. Dogs don't need to be bathed often - only if they have gotten very dirty or have rolled in something disgusting. The best soaps are those formulated for dogs, but you can use human shampoos on them.
If the dog rolled on a dead fish or in fresh cow manure and you have no dog shampoo and no way acquire some (because this happened in the wilds of I-80, or something), then one bath with a human shampoo followed by copious rinsing will be okay. If this is not an emergency situation, then get a dog shampoo. Human shampoos and soaps are damaging to the dog's skin.
