What is the benefit of reading books on Economics?

I'm studying Economics in high school and I wonder if reading books on Economics would help me in school. I read How An Economist Gets Lunch. Does it give me some real life examples that I can apply into essays? i.e. Vegetables at a Chinese grocery stores/supermarkets are so much cheaper than at a regular (western) one in the US<costumers lack of information
