When I press the breaks on my car, there is no secondary red lights that turns on, does that mean I need to get the bulbs fixed?

They're BRAKES, not "breaks" first of all.

The easiest thing to check are the brake lamp bulbs. If they are not the problem, it could be the brake switch, the wiring, and/or the sockets causing this issue ( on most vehicles but since you did not specify your year, make, and model, a generic answer is all anyone can offer ).

As said it will be the BRAKE switch as all the bulbs will not blow at once unless you have been ignoring one blown bulb and the other has blown now.

It is also an offence to drive without brake lights and if you are rear ended it would be deemed as your fault as your car is defective.

All you people missed one quick check. Are the turn signals working MR. SUP? That would determine: Bulbs or switch.

maybe, or more likely you need to replace the "brake light switch" located on the brake pedal.

If you had listed the year make and model car we could have let you know exactly where the BRAKE light switch is so you could adjust or replace it in-case the new brake light bulbs do not fix the problem.

95% certain it is the bulbs. You can remove them and see if the filaments are burned out or not on most of them. They usually have a pair of filaments in a single bulb. One for when headlights are on, and a second pair for brakes.
