1) May has $300 at the beginning of a week. Each day her mother gives her $y and she spends $25. At the end of week, she gives $85 to her brother and in her wallet, only $200 left. Find the value of y.



2) After employing 10 more employees, a company divides all the employees into 3 departments , each having 12 employees. Find the original number of employees.

Solution :
300 + 7(y - 25) - 85 = 200
300 + 7y - 175 - 85 = 200
7y = 160
y = 160/7

Solution :
Let n be the original number of employees.

n + 10 = 3 × 12
n = 26

The original number of employees = 26
