a sport that uses lance as close quarters combat?
tried searching lancing, came with cars and movie stars, but no sport
what is the official name of the sport?

Not specifically "lance" but there is the Japanese pole-arm sport called "Naginatado" or just Naginata. There's also jousting but there's a lot of requirements to do that. HEMA also do "spears" but it really depend on which circle.

Your best bet is to join a naginata dojo BUT to my knowledge there is only two dojo in my state, California. It's a bit more scarce than Kendo dojo.
